Joel Embiid Born on March 16, 1994, is originally from the Republic of Cameroon, France. He holds citizenship in both the countries, America and France. Joel lived his childhood in a strict environment due to a family background with a military presence, as his father, Mr. Thomas, was an army officer. In their early days, he wished to become a professional volleyball player who would play for Europe, but he changed his decision after joining the NBA. At the age of 15, he started playing basketball. Being a senior, he led the team in the state championship averaging 9.7 rebounds, 13.0 points, and 1.9 blocks per game. Joel attended Montverde Academy, but because of a lack of playing time, he transferred to a Christian academy, The Rock School, in Gainesville, Florida.
Career
After starting his basketball game in school, Joel continued to play the game at the university level. His records in 2013-14, after playing a total of 28 games averaging 11.2 points, 1.4 assists, 8.1 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks in 23.1 minutes per game. During his college days at the University of Kansas, on February 13, 2014, he was entitled among the 30 finalists for the Naismith College Player of the Year. In March 2014, he suffered a stress fracture in his back. Due to this, he wasn’t able to play NCAA tournament and Big 12 tournament.
Preceding his final three years of college, Joel was selected for the 2014 NBA draft on April 9, 2014. Six days after the game, he underwent surgery on his right foot due to a broken navicular bone and was excluded for four to six months. For the 2014 NBA draft to be held on June 26, 2014, Joel was chosen by the Philadelphia 76ers, an American professional basketball team.
During 2014-15 Embiid was ruled out due to his foot surgery. In August 2015, he underwent his second-foot surgery and missed both the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons. After recovering from surgery, Joel made his debut for the 76ers on October 26, 2016, in the regular NBA season, against the Oklahoma City Thunder. On February 11, 2017, the 76ers declared that Joel suffered from a left knee injury. Even so, no need of surgery is required. Later it was disclosed that the injury was serious, and Joel had to take the rest for the remaining 2016-17 season.
On October 10, 2017, Embiid did a five-year deal of $148 million with the 76ers. According to the contract, he could earn $30 million in addition if he put All-NBA first, second, and third position.
