James Edward Harden Jr. was born on August 26, 1989, in Los Angeles, California. He is the second child of James Harden Sr. and Monja Willis. His Father was in the US Navy. James’s father was a drug addict and spent many hours in prison. James grew up without his father and refuses to use the “Jr.” part of his name.

James Harden attended Artesia High School, in Lakewood, California. James averaged 13.2 points in his sophomore year. For his college, he joined Arizona State University and played for Sun Devils. Arizona State was selected to finish ninth in Pac-10 Conference. James Harden was named to the conference’s all-freshman team after his freshman year. Harden was also named First Team All-District by both the NABC and the USBWA.
