Early Life

Alicia Silverstone is an American actress, producer, author, and activist. She was born in San Francisco, California, on October 4, 1976. Her father, Monty Silverstone, was a real estate businessman, and her mother Didi Silverstone, was a former flight attendant. Her Scottish-born mother converted to Judaism, while her English-born father comes from a Jewish background.

When Alicia was just six years old, her father started taking pictures of his little daughter, eventually leading to her landing in multiple television ads. Domino’s Pizza was the first brand for which Alicia was hired to shoot a commercial. She first went to San Mateo High School and then Crocker Middle School. She transitioned to filmmaking after appearing as a guest on The Wonder Years (1988) as a real-life “dream girl.” Alicia played the character of a troubled young girl enamored with an older man in The Crush 1993, a type of Fatal Attraction for teens.

Although the unpleasant little part failed to please the establishment of critics, it amazed its intended audience: teens. She won the 1994 MTV Movie Award for “Best Villain” and “Breakthrough Performance” for her performance in the movie. It’s noteworthy that Alicia became an emancipated minor during the movie’s production to avoid child labor restrictions that would have interfered with her working hours. Alicia’s childhood unfolded in the Hillsborough suburb, where she ventured into modeling and subsequently appeared in several TV advertisements.

Career

In the 1992 “Road Test” episode of The Wonder Years, Alicia received her first acting credit for playing Kevin’s “dream girl” from high school. Silverstone had her acting debut in The Crush, a s*xual thriller, where she landed the main part. To work during the hours necessary for the film’s shooting schedule, she became legally emancipated at the age of 15. At the MTV Movie Awards 1994, she took home two prizes for the part: Best Breakthrough Performance and Best Villain.

In her early career, Silverstone produced a few television pictures, such as Torch Song, Cool, Crazy, and, Scattered Dreams. She worked in the other three movies, Le Nouveau Monde, The Babysitter, and Hideaway, in 1995. Silverstone got a Razzie for worst supporting actress, although she also won a Blimp award for the same performance at the Kid’s Choice Awards. Later, in 1997, Excess Baggage, the debut film from Silverstone’s production firm was released.

In 1999, Hugh Wilson’s Blast from the Past, a movie that was a mixture of romance and comedy, which also starred Brendan Fraser, Christopher Walken, and Sissy Spacek, Silverstone played the female protagonist. The movie received mixed reviews from critics, yet it only grossed a meager $40 million worldwide. From 2001 to 2003, Silverstone served as executive producer and Sharon Spitz’s voice actor in the animated Canadian television series Braceface. She appeared in her first  Broadway show in a theatrical production of The Graduate, which went on from 2002 to 2003 at the Plymouth Theatre, featuring Kathleen Turner and Jason Biggs, and as the bass player of a rock band in the indie comedy Global Heresy 2002, starring Peter O’Toole and Joan Plowright.

In the 2003 indie comedy Scorched, which also starred Rachael Leigh Cook, Woody Harrelson, and John Cleese, Silverstone played one of several angry bank workers attempting to steal the same bank. As part of her ongoing theater career, Silverstone next appeared in David Mamet’s 2007 play Boston Marriage, which examines the connection between two wealthy women. In the role, the Los Angeles Times described the actress as a “clueless and hyper-emotional Scottish maid”. The play was performed at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles, where Silverstone, according to Variety, “steals the show.” She has a nice Scottish accent, originally delivers her humor, and makes the most of each shaky bow. Even if her character is exploited a little too much, it is the only aspect of the play that Mamet gets completely right.

In 2015, Silverstone played the lead role in the New York production of the play Of Good Stock, which is about a group of brothers who get together for a summer holiday at their family home. She was described as “magnetic even as an engaged narcissism, ditzy” sister by Entertainment Weekly. Still, according to The New York Times, she played the “most cartoonish of the characters and a thankless part for who edges into comedic shrillness here.” She starred with Ryan Kwanten as a divorced couple battling for guardianship of their cherished dog in the 2016 rom-com “Who Gets the Dog?” The movie was released directly to DVD.

Alicia’s subsequent acting role was that of Brent Corrigan’s mother in the 2016 indie biographical drama King Cobra. Silverstone portrayed the romantic interest of a person who had a fierce, lifelong feud with an affluent housewife in the 2016 film Catfight. The comedy opened in a few theaters and on VOD to mostly favorable reviews. In addition to filming the television series American Woman in July 2017, Silverstone also starred in the 2017 movies Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, and The Tribes of Palos Verdes. She said on her demanding workload: “They were all occurring simultaneously.
