Joseph Glenn Herbert, Sr. is known professionally as Jo Koy and is an American stand-up comedian. He was a frequent panelist on channel E! for “Chelsea Lately.” Since then, he has had many Comedy Central specials and Netflix specials. Jo Koy’s net worth is 5 Mn US$.

Early Life

Jo Koy, also known as Joseph Glenn Herbert, was born in Tacoma on June 2, 1971. His American father was stationed at the Philippines in the US Air Force when he married Koy’s Filipino mother. She worked as a manager for a Filipino band. Jo was 13 when his parents got divorced. His mother then raised her children all on her own. After Jo graduated from high school in Tacoma, the family moved to Las Vegas. To be close to Jo’s grandmother, the family moved to Los Vegas. Jo got his stage name from a nickname his family gave him as a child. His mother encouraged him to participate in school talent shows, and to host impromptu shows to entertain his family and friends. Jo often tells stories about his mother during comedy shows and credits her for acting and comedic talent.

Early

In the mid-90s, he began to perform stand-up comedy in Las Vegas. He started to get noticed when he was a regular performer on the MGM Grand’s “Catch a Rising Star.” He was inspired to move to Los Angeles by this experience. Jo then performed at the MGM Grand Las Vegas and rented the Huntridge Theatre. He went door-to-door selling tickets for his comedy shows. Later, he was invited to appear on “Comic View” by BET. He went on to win numerous comedy awards and perform on various high-profile tours. He also appeared on “Comic View” for two seasons. Jo was awarded the Showtime at the Apollo Awards and appeared on several episodes of VH1’s “I Love the 1970s, ’80s, and ’90s” shows.

He was a frequent guest commentator on TV Channel named “Chelsea Lately,” appearing on more than 100 episodes as a regular roundtable guest. After performing on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” Koy received a standing ovation. Koy is a regular guest on “The Adam Carolla show.” His podcast, “The Koy Pond,” is hosted by him on Podcast One. He has also appeared on Tru TV’s “World’s Dumbest” and “New Millennium.” Koy was invited to Montreal’s comedy festival “Just for Laughs,” where he won the prestigious Canadian Gemini Award. Koy also performed stand-up in front of 10,000 fans at stadiums and arenas across the country on Carlos Mencia’s Punisher Tour.
