Biography

On November 5, 1973, Damon was born in Fort Riley, Kansas, in the United States. After his father was released from the army, Damon was reared in Florida. Since he was a young child, Damon has always been relatively quiet. In his free time, he used to sing, but he never sang in front of people. He stutters quite a bit. Damon has traveled with his father, who served in the US army, to various locations, including West Germany, Japan, etc. Damon began playing baseball when he was very young. He first began participating in “South Orange Little League” baseball. Later, when he started high school, he was considered for having the best potential. He excelled as an outfielder in high school and carried that skill into Major League Baseball.

Early Life

Damon was born on a US Army installation in Kansas called Fort Riley. His father, Jimmy, is an American of Irish and Croatian ancestry, and his mother, Yome, is a Thai immigrant to the country. His parents met when his father who was posted in Thailand met his mother.  As a youngster, he participated in the “South Orange Little League”. Before enrolling at Dr. Phillips High School in Orlando, he played baseball for  “Walker Jr. High” team. During his senior year in 1992, he had been named the “Florida Gatorade Player of the Year”, also was named USA Today’s High School All-America team, and also was rated the top high school prospect in the nation by Baseball America.

In his final year at Dr. Phillips, Damon competed on the track and finished second in the 200-meter dash. While playing football during high school, Damon was struck by Warren Sapp once and had his first concussion.

Career

The high school baseball squad is where Johnny Damon began his baseball career. In high school, he was regarded as a five-star prospect and one of the best outfielders in the country. In 1992, Major League Baseball selected Damon. “The Kansas City Royals” chose him. In 1995, Damon made his debut in MLB with the “Kansas City Royals”, where he remained through 2000. Later, in 2001, “Oakland Athletics” signed him. Nevertheless, his time with them was only for one season.

Later, in 2002, he was given a contract for 4 years for  US$ 31 million with the “Boston Red Sox”. Damon played last with the “New York Yankees” from 2006 to 2009, “Detroit Tigers” in 2010, and “Tampa Bay Rays” in 2011. He also played for the “Cleveland Indians” in 2012.
