Biography

Ibram X. Kendi is the Andrew W. Mellon Professor of Humanities at Boston University. He also set up the BU Centre for Antiracist Research. Additionally, he is a New York Times best-seller and winner of the National Book Award as an author. His arduous and persistent research challenges the notion of a post-racial society and reveals American racism to readers. Kendi: The Black Campus Movement’s W.E.B. Award was given to Stamped from the Beginning.

Stamped from the Beginning, The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America, which won the Du Bois Book Prize, won the National Book Award for Nonfiction. One of his pieces is Stamped. a guide against racism and a book. The New York Times lists both as its top-selling titles. For young adults, a new version of The Stamped from the Beginning has been written. It’s called ‘Stamped: Racism, Antiracism and You’. ‘Antiracist Baby’ is his most recent work. Early Life

Kendi Rogers was born on August 13, 1982, to middle-class parents Larry Rogers, a tax accountant, and Carol Rogers, a former business analyst for a healthcare services organization. His parents are now retired Methodist ministers. His older brother is Akil. Kendi went to private Christian schools in Queens from the third to the eighth grade. Kendi and his family relocated to Manassas, Virginia, in 1997. He attended John Bowne School as a freshman. He attended Stonewall Jackson High School for his final three years. He got his degree in 2000. Kendi graduated with a dual B.S. in 2005 from Florida A&M University in African American studies and magazine production.

In 2010, Kendi graduated from Temple University with a Ph.D. and an M.A. “The Black Campus Movement: An Afrocentric Narrative History of the Struggle to Diversify Higher Education, 1965-1972” was the title of Kendi’s thesis. His mentor was Ama Mazama.

Career

From 2008 to 2012, Kendi was an assistant professor of history at the State University of New York at Oneonta in the Department of Africana and Latino Studies, which is part of the history department. Kendi was an assistant professor of Africana Studies as well as at the history department at the University at Albany, SUNY, from 2012 to 2015. From 2013 to 2014, Kendi taught courses as a visiting assistant professor at Brown University. He worked at the University of Florida as an assistant professor in the African American Studies program of the history department from 2015 to 2017. In 2017, Kendi started working as a history and international relations professor in the College of Arts and Sciences and School of International Service at American University in Washington, D.C.

In September 2017, Kendi established the Antiracist Exploration and Strategy Centre at American College and right now fills in as its leader chief. Kendi agreed to relocate the Antiracist Research and Policy Centre at American University to Boston University, where he will be the founding director of the Boston University Centre for Antiracist Research when he accepted the position. Kendi was a Frances B. Cashin Fellow at Harvard University’s Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study during the academic year 2020–2021. Kendi has contributed essays to books and academic journals like The Journal of African American History, The Journal of Social History, and The Sixties: a publication that covers history, politics, and culture.
