Early Life

He was born in the month of June on 29th in the year 1978 to his parents one of whom converted to Islam. He had been detained twice for marijuana and cocaine possession with the plans to distribute as a youngster while growing up in South Carolina. Following a third arrest for being close to a non-fatal gunshot, McKelvey’s father had declined to post bail for his son. His father decided to “give him another shot” after he had spent 41 days regarding his charges in jail and requested his mother to post bail. After being freed, McKelvey decided that he should start going to night school and eventually graduated from Berkeley High School (in Moncks Corner).

After he attended a  party in 2001, McKelvey was also charged with s*xual assault. Throughout the trial, He cooperated with the police and also denied having s*x with the victim. He also provided DNA evidence which serves as the evidence. He eventually pled guilty to a misdemeanor count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and was given three-year probation.

McKelvey started his radio career as an intern for Charleston’s Z93 Jamz. He also participated in WHXT. To work as Wendy Williams’ second mic, he shifted from South Carolina in the year 2006. To create a new persona based on Charlemagne (also who was  known as Charles the Great), who ruled much of Western Europe during  800 A.D., he came up with the stage name “Charlamagne,” which was derived from his street name as a drug dealer, “Charles.” He added the qualifier “Tha God” because it “sounded cool. His direct questioning and in-depth radio interviews with hip-hop and R&B musicians were to increase his public prominence but triggered his relationship with the show’s guests. He lost his job when the program which was canceled in 2008. He started doing the morning program for Philadelphia’s radio 100.3 The Beat in the year 2008.
