Early Life  

Cecily Strong was born in Springfield, Illinois, on February 8, 1984. Mother Penelope and father William were raised here in Oak Park, Illinois. Penelope, who is a nurse practitioner, and William, who owns a public relations company, are Cecily’s parents. Penelope and Bill are divorced. Strong and a friend would act out “SNL” sketches when they were kids, and Strong would repeatedly watch a tape of the best advertisements. Because of her uncle’s work as a Broadway producer, she frequently saw plays on Broadway when she was younger and occasionally got to meet the actors. When Cecily was a sophomore, she was kicked out of Oak Park and River Forest High School for possessing marijuana on school property. After that, she attended a private Catholic school until she transferred to the Chicago Academy for the Arts in her final year.
