Early Life
Drummond wedded Ladd Drummond (born January 22, 1969), a fourth-generation cattle rancher from the well-known Drummond family of Osage County, on September 21, 1996. In her books and blog, Drummond refers to Ladd as “the Marlboro Man.” A rural working cattle ranch about 8 miles west of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, is where they reside. Todd, Jamar, Paige, Bryce, and Alex are their five kids. Texas A&M University grads Alex and Mauricio Scott are married. While Bryce attends the University of North Texas and plays football, Paige is a University of Arkansas alumni. At the University of Central Oklahoma, their foster son Jamar studies and plays football. The Drummonds purchased and started renovating a century-old downtown Pawhuska structure in 2012, and in late 2016 they opened The Mercantile, a restaurant, and retail store.
In order to pursue her college education, she relocated to Los Angeles, California, after finishing college at Bartlesville High School in 1987. Before switching to gerontology as her major at the University of Southern California, she was a media major. She graduated in 1991. She was intending to enlist in Chicago law school following graduation, but when she met and wed Ladd Drummond, her plans were dramatically changed.

Food Community
In the culinary part of her blog, The Pioneer Woman, Drummond asked viewers to share one of their favorite recipes for an opportunity to win prizes in April 2008. In just 24 hours, a startling total of more than five thousand recipes were uploaded. She noticed that she had gained a following of culinary connoisseurs in addition to her loyal readership. She quickly began searching for a way to arrange the recipes and enable public search of them. A little more than a year later, on July 14, 2009, Drummond revealed the introduction of TastyKitchen.com, an easy and expense-free online community webpage with the theme of favorite recipes from real kitchens everywhere. The website was developed so that her food-loving supporters could post, look for, and share recipes there.
