Joel was born on March 11, 1979, in Waldorf, Maryland. He was the child of Robin Marie Madden and Roger Paul Combs; Joel’s father left his family, so he changed his family name, “Combs” to his mother’s name, “Madden.” His mother raised her three kids alone, leading to economic difficulties and the ousted from their home. One day he and his twin older brother Benji Madden went to a Beastie Boys performance and decided to own a band. Once they graduated in 1997, their mother gave them a pair of flight tickets to California to visit a club where usually the best punk rock bands started. After returning, they were more determined. They teamed up with their school friend and started their band called “Good Charlotte.”

In 1995, Joel Madden was 16 years old when he formed a band with his friend and brother Benji. After the band’s survival, Joel hired some high schools pupils like Aaron Escolopio, Billy Martin, and Paul Thomas to assist them in raising their “Good Charlotte” band.

In 2000, the band “Good Charlotte” released their self-titled debut album. Even though it won favorable appraisals from the critics, as the band was new, it struggled a lot. It ended up ranking its number to 185 on the Billboard 200. As it is rightly said, Don’t Count the Days; Make the Days Count the hard work of the band “Good Charlotte” saw its more tremendous success in 2002, when they took their step forward with “The Young and the Hopeless.” Producing the hit singles “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous,” “Girls & Boys,” and “The Anthem,”  the album was certified Triple-Platinum by the RIAA.

In 2001 a movie named “Not Another Teen Movie,” Madden and the members of “Good Charlotte” made a presence as the band. He later had a character part in “Fat Albert” in  2004 and “Material Girls” in 2006  with Benji. He also had a guest entrance in the hit Nickelodeon comedy musical series “The Naked Brothers Band,” where he combined the band for a concert.

In 2007, Good Charlotte released “Good Morning Revival”; and was debuted at number 7 on the Billboard 200 and created the singles “Dance Floor Anthem” and The River” Succeeding this, the band released an additional successful album, “The Chronicles of Life and Death,” which introduced the hit singles “Predictable” and “I Just Wanna Live.” subsequent albums include “Cardiology,” in 2010’s “Youth Authority,” in 2016’s and “Generation Rx.” in 2018.

Madden was featured in the fifth studio album Blood on the Dance Floor, and the track “Incomplete And All Alone” launched on June 19, 2012. Madden was brought forward in Heikki and Alex Kunnari L’s single “City of Sin,” released on July 12, 2013.

Joel was in a pop rock duo with his twin brother Benji, The Madden Brothers. On September 16, 2014, they launched the “Greetings from California” recording.

Madden seemed a guest of honor in the American TV series “Empire” in 2015.
