Bonamassa was raised in Utica, New York, and was born in New Hartford, New York. His father, a devoted music lover, pushed him to pick up the guitar when he was four years old and introduced him to the British blues rock songs of Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck, which strongly influenced him. American guitar legend Danny Gatton began mentoring and training Bonamassa when he was eleven. When he was twelve, Smokin’ Joe Bonamassa was his band.
