Huffines received his B.B.A. in Finance from the University of Texas at Austin in 1981. He began working in 1982 for the Henry S. Miller Company, the largest commercial brokerage firm in Texas. In 1984, Huffines was promoted to vice president. Huffines started Huffines Communities in 1985, which became one of the largest real-estate developers in Dallas.

Donald Blaine Huffines was born on April 26, 1958, in Dallas, Texas. Don Huffines has two brothers, James and Ray, and a twin brother, Philip. During his childhood, he and his brothers spent time helping out at their grandfather’s car dealership.
James Lesille “J.L.” Huffines, Don Huffines’ grandfather, started the Huffines Motor Company in 1924 in Denton, Texas. Don’s brother Ray Huffines, who runs the company, has grown into a large network of metroplex dealerships.

Don Huffines started his career in 1982, at Henry S Miller Company, the largest professional brokerage company in Texas. Huffines and his brother Philip are the founders and co-owners of Huffines Communities, founded in 1985, in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The primary focus of the company is land investment and development.
Donald’s passion for freedom led Don to lifelong involvement in conservative Republican causes. Don Huffines served as a national delegate to the 2008, 2012, and 2016 Republican conventions and was a state delegate to several state conventions.
Don ran in Texas in 2014 to represent Senate District 16, which includes northern Dallas County, against Senator John J. Carona and won the primary race. In General elections the same year, Don ran unopposed and was elected to the Texas Senate. He is the only Texas state senator in history who never accepted government money during his term, Don Huffines has never committed corruption. In 2022, Huffines challenged Governor Greg Abbott, however, he lost the primary race against him with only 12% votes in his favor. In June 2022, Don launched, Huffines Liberty Foundation with the goal to educate Texas citizens to hold their elected officials accountable.
