For her acting in the series, she won a ‘Golden Globe Award’ in 1998 and got nominated three times for the ‘Primetime Emmy Award’ in the category of ‘Outstanding Lead Actress’. From 2006 to 2011, she appeared in “Brothers & Sisters,” the ABC drama series, where she was cast as ‘Kitty Walker’. From 2015 to 2021, She was seen in the Superhero drama “Supergirl,” and she appeared as ‘Cat Grant’ in the series. Early Life

Born in 1964 in Freeport, Illinois, Flockhart was named Calista after her great-grandmother. Her father, Ronald Flockhart (1932 – 2020), worked for Kraft Foods Inc.; her mother, Kay (Honohan), was a school teacher. She traveled to various places during her childhood, including Illinois, New Jersey, Norwich, and lowa. She knows different languages, such as German, English, Scottish, and Irish. She completed her schooling at Shawnee High School in New Jersey. She later graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in theatre from Rutgers University at Mason Gross School of Arts. After her graduation, she shifted to New York City to seek out auditions. She served as an aerobics instructor and waitress during that period.

Career

In 1989, Calista made her T.V. debut by performing a minor role as a babysitter in an episode of “Guiding Light.” Later, she was seen in “Beside Herself,” a stage production alongside Melissa Joan Hart. At an early age in her career, she appeared in movies like, “Getting in,” “Naked in New York,” and “Darrow.” She got her first significant appearance in 1994 from Robert Redford’s “Quiz Show,” alongside Ralph Fiennes, Rob Morrow, and John Turturro. In 1994, she made her debut on Broadway in “The Glass Menagerie” as Laura. Later, standing by Flockhart’s side, one actress named Julie Harris felt that Calista Flockhart was the best choice for the role and should be cast without further auditions. She was awarded the “Clarence Derwent Award,” for her brilliant performance.  In 1999, she continued her work as Natasha in Anton Chekhov’s “Three Sisters.”

In 1997, Flockhart was invited for auditions for Fox Television’s “Ally McBeal,” directed by David E. Kelly. Initially, she was unsure about her role in the series, but she later traveled to Los Angeles, auditioned, and appeared to be a success. For the same position, she won “Golden Globe Award,” in 1998. She was applauded by Time magazine and put on their cover page on June 29, 1998 for her role. She was part of the show till its last episode.
