As a Game show host, he hosted many game shows, including Password, Password Plus, College Bowl, and the Joker’s Wild. Between 1961 to 1980, Allen Ludden was best known as the host of the popular game show Password. He worked for the U.S. Army before entering into a TV career. Allen received several awards, including the Bronze Star medal and Peabody Award. Allen Ludden was also the author of four books. In June 1981, The great personality Allen Ludden passed away due to stomach cancer at 63.



In 1979, he started hosting the updated version of Password Plus.

Allen Ludden was born on 9 June 1981 in Mineral Point, Wisconsin, United States. At a young age, Ludden lost his father, Elmer Ellsworth. When Allen was five years old, his mother, Leila Allen, remarried Homer Ludden. Allen was given his adoptive father’s surname. So he became Allen Ellsworth Ludden. When Allen was nine years old, his family moved to Texas. Allen Ludden has done his graduation in English and dramatics from the University of Texas at Austin. In 1941, He did a master’s in English from the same university.


After graduation, Allen Ludden started his military career by joining the U.S. Army. In 1946, Ludden was discharged from the army with the rank of caption and earned a bronze medal. Later, Ludden began his career as an adviser for youth and a radio show for teenagers, and he received the Peabody Award in 1950. After this, Allen Ludden began his career as a game show host and started hosting games such as ‘Password,’ ‘GE College Bowl,’ and ‘The Joker’s Wild.’ He also hosted various versions of the game show ‘Password’ titled ‘Password Plus in 1979.

Ludden hosted the original pilot for The Joker’s Wild and also hosted a talk-variety show. Allen hosted talk shows like ‘Allen Ludden’s Gallery‘.
