Timeline
Early Life
Maurice was raised in Liberty City, mostly by his mother, along with his ten siblings, and he was exposed to the stresses of a working-class neighborhood from a young age. When Maurice was a teenager, his father, a local pimp, took him in. Young began to engage in crime for the first time while he was living with his father. He began selling crack cocaine on the streets at the age of 15.
Soon after being detained for having both drugs and a gun, Maurice’s situation only became worse. He was arrested again for attempted murder the very next day after being freed from detention after shooting a guy in the street. Young, then 20, was facing a lengthy prison term. As he dealt with all of this, his brother was murdered.
Career
Young made contact with Ted Lucas, the creator of Slip-N-Slide Records, after being released from jail. Maurice took Lucas’ counsel to heart and decided to pursue a career in rap while avoiding jail time. He made his debut on the 1996 album “Uncle Luke,” as well as his debut album “Based on a True Story” which was released in 1997. This album served as the foundation for the publication of “www.thug.com,” which included the song “Nann Nigga.” This turned out to be a huge smash, and the rap rankings showed it peaking at number three.
In 2000, “Book of Thugs: Chapter AK Verse 47,” his subsequent CD, was published. The next year, he published “Thugs Are Us,” and in 2004, he published “Thug Matrimony: Married To The Streets.” The number-one song “Let’s Go,” which was a Twista duet, would appear on this album.
Thereafter, the Ying Yang Twins, DJ Khaled, and Pitbull collaborated once again. Trick Daddy founded his own record label in 2008 after leaving Slip-n-Slide Records. He worked with Young Jeezy in 2011 before releasing a mixtape.
