Early Life

Tracy Morgan was born on November 10, 1968, in New York and named Tracy Jamel Morgan. Jimmy, Tracy’s father, was a heroin addict who abandoned his wife and 5 kids when Tracy was young. Alicia, Tracy’s mother, was a housewife. Growing up in Tompkins Houses in Bedford Stuyvesant’s, Morgan experienced bullying. He went to DeWitt Clinton High School, and during his second year of education, Morgan discovered that as a result of using hypodermic needles, his father had become infected with AIDS in the year 1985.

As Jimmy’s condition worsened in 1987, Tracy, who had recently been married, left school to take care of his father. Morgan briefly sold crack in the months following Jimmy’s passing in November of the same year to support his wife and 2 young children. After Morgan’s best friend was killed, he followed his friend’s advice and started doing stand-up comedy on the streets, eventually becoming a successful stand-up comedian.
