Virginia Elizabeth Davis was born in Wareham, Massachusetts, on January 21, 1956. Her mother Lucille worked as a teaching assistant, while her father William was a civil engineer. She was always passionate about music. She played the organ in her Congregationalist church as a teenager and the piano, flute, and organ. She went to Wareham High School and studied abroad as an exchange student in Sweden, where she swiftly mastered the language. Geena Davis worked as an Ann Taylor window mannequin after earning a degree in acting from Boston University. She then signed a modeling contract with the Zoli modeling agency.

Davis began acting in 1982’s “Tootsie” and later appeared in “Buffalo Bill,” “Riptide,” “Knight Rider,” and “Family Ties,” among other films. “Tootsie,” the second-most popular movie of 1982, received 10 Oscar nominations.
