Born in Pikeville, Kentucky, Dwight David Yoakam is the son of David Yoakam (gas station owner) and Ruth Ann (key-punch operator). He has been curious about both music and drama since his school years. In 1974 he completed his schooling at Columbus’ Northland High School. He used to participate in main characters in school plays such as “Charlie” in a stage version of Flowers for Algernon. After school, Dwight Yoakam used to play guitar and entertain his friends. He moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career as a recording artist. With Billy Bob Thornton and Tommy Lee Jones, he frequently collaborated in the film world.


Dwight Yoakam released his debut studio album ‘Guitars, Cadillacs’ in 1986.’ With the release of albums Hillbilly Deluxe’ and ‘Buenas Noches from a Lonely Room,’ various singers recognized him. The album was a hit and gained appreciation in the media publication “Time Magazine.” Over the next few years, Dwight Yoakam released albums such as ‘Hill Billy Deluxe’ in 1987 and ‘Buenas Noches’ from ‘Lonely Room’ in 1988.
