Biography

Cody Garrett Runnels Rhodes is an accomplished wrestler and actor from the United States. He was born on June 30, 1985. In addition, Rhodes has competed in a number of other illustrious promotions, including Total Nonstop Action (TNA), Ring of Honor (ROH), and New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW). In addition to his work in wrestling, he also participates in the competitive show Go-Big Show and co-stars in the reality series “Rhodes” with Brandi Rhodes, his wife.

Early life

The very successful wrestler Virgil Runnels Jr., also known as Dusty Rhodes by his ring name, and Michelle Rubio his second wife welcomed their son Cody Garrett Runnels on Sunday, June 30, 1985. From his father’s previous marriage, he also has two half-sisters in addition to his half-brother Dustin. When he was a teenager, he legally altered his name to Cody Garrett Runnels Rhodes. Rhodes wrestled well in high school while attending Lassiter High School.

As a sophomore, Cody finished 6th in the 171 lb (78 kg) class. He won the 189 lb (86 kg) division at the Georgia state competition as a junior in 2003, and he repeated the same as champion as a senior. Cody had intended to wrestle at Penn State University but changed his mind and opted to get a professional wrestler. Rhodes worked as a referee for his father’s Turnbuckle Championship Wrestling organization while still in high school. Cody attended an acting school after finishing high school.

Career

Cody Rhodes’ wrestling coaching from his father Dusty began when he was just 12 years old and mostly consisted of learning the fundamental moves and taking punishment. Al Snow, Randy Orton, Danny Davis, and Ricky Morton began training him after that. Rhodes began wrestling professionally in Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) in May 2006. A tag team that Runnels and Shawn Spears formed in the middle of August 2006 went on to win two OVW Southern Tag Team Championships. He also won the OVW Heavyweight Championship as well as the OVW Television Championship.

In a backstage scene between his father Dusty Rhodes and Randy Orton in the July 2007 episode of Raw, Cody made his television debut using the last name of his family in professional wrestling, Rhodes. Orton introduced himself to Cody and then slapped Dusty as a symbol of disdain. Rhodes showed up at “The Great American Bash” to stop Orton from attacking his father any further.

Cody challenged Orton to a rematch from the prior week the following night on “Raw” but lost once more. Orton then struck Rhodes’ father in the head with a kick. In May 2008, Ted DiBiase began a feud with them and threatened to compete for their championships in his first match under the Raw brand. On June 29 at the Night of Champions, a pay-per-view event, Cody turned on Holly in order to help Ted DiBiase win the match and gain the title of second World Tag Team Champion.

When Rhodes tried to sabotage Orton’s WWE Championship bout at the 2010 Royal Rumble, tensions within The Legacy became apparent. When the referee caught Rhodes, he disqualified Orton, who then went on the attack against Cody and DiBiase, who had attempted to assist Rhodes, after the game. Orton fought Sheamus in a non-title rematch on February 15’s Raw, however, he was once more eliminated due to interference from Cody and DiBiase. Rhodes intervened during the WWE Championship Elimination Chamber match pay-per-view and gave DiBiase a lead pipe by slipping it through the cage. Orton was out of the match after DiBiase hit him with a pipe.

On March 18, 2022, Rhodes allegedly signed a contract with WWE. On the first night of WrestleMania 38, Rhodes defeated Seth Rollins after being revealed as the surprise foe. For six years, Rhodes had been missing from the WWE. On the following week’s episode of Raw, Dusty Rhodes made the announcement that he was leaving the WWE since he was never able to win the WWE Championship. At Wrestle Mania Backlash, Rhodes defeated Rollins again in a second rematch. Prior to their encounter at Hell in a Cell’s name-branding event, Rhodes really tore a pectoral muscle; the injury had happened midway through a scuffle on Raw the week before. Despite having a large area of discolored skin when he entered Hell in a Cell, he was still able to defeat Rollins for the third time.
