Early Life

Thalia was born in Mexico City, Mexico on August 26, 1971. She grew up in a middle-class family. From a young age, she showed an interest in performing arts and started taking ballet and singing lessons.

Thalia’s talent was discovered when she participated in a children’s music group called “Pac-Man.”. In the 1976 Mexican movie “La Guerra de los Pasteles,” she had an uncredited cameo. Thalia, who had diabetes, lost Ernesto when she was six. She subsequently revealed that the trauma caused her to lose her voice for a year and receive a diagnosis of childhood disintegrative disorder. She acquired her fluency in French while attending the Lycée Franco-Mexicain elementary school.

Career

Thalia was nine years old when she was added as a vocalist to a kids’ band called Pac-Man. This group was created to participate in the televised music event called Juguemos a cantar. Later, Pac-Man’s band name was altered to “Din-Din.” Din-Din and Thalia performed together on stage on numerous occasions while touring Mexico.

Between 1982 and 1983, the band created a total of 4 studio albums before breaking up. Following the dissolution of Din-Din in 1984, Thalia took part in two Juguemos Cantar music festivals as a solo performer. She came in second with her performance of “Moderna nia del rock” in 1984, which allowed her to join the chorus of the successful musical Vaselina, a young adaptation of Grease, in which the band Timbiriche was performing and acting.

Thalia joined Timbiriche in 1986, replacing Sasha Sökol, who had left the group. Timbiriche had five albums in his discography at that point. She made her acting debut on television in 1987 in an opera Pobre Senorita Limantour episode. Thalia returned to Mexico in 1990 and issued her debut album as a solo artist, simply titled Thalia, produced by Alfredo Daz Ordaz and distributed by Televisa’s record company, Fonovisa. She produced a total of 4 songs from the album, including “Amarillo Azul,” which became a radio hit.

Thalia’s fifth studio album, Amor a la Mexicana, was released in July 1997; it was once again produced by Emilio Estefan and featured songs like “Mujer Latina,” which have now become classics. In 2009, Thalia had a performance at the White House and requested a dance from President Barack Obama. The best-selling live album in Mexico in 2010 was “Primera Fila,” and she collaborated with Michael Bublé on the duet “Mis Deseos/Feliz Navidad” on his holiday album “Christmas.” When Tony Bennett published his “Viva Duets” CD in 2012, Thalia sang “The Way You Look Tonight” with him. Two years later, Thalia released “Viva Kids Vol. 1,” then in 2020, “Viva Kids Vol. 2.”
