Early Life
Jeffrey Dean Isbell, Stradlin’s birth name, was born in Indiana. Sonja LaVern Isbell, his mother worked for a phone business, and Richard Clyde Isbell, his father, was an engraver. When he was 8 years old, his parents got divorced, and his mother moved to Lafayette, Indiana with Stradlin as well as his 2 younger brothers, Kevin and Joseph “Joe”. In 1975, his father remarried, and he and his new spouse had 2 daughters. Later, Stradlin remarked of his hometown, “Growing up there was fun. A courthouse, a college, a river, and railroad tracks are all present. Since the town was small, there wasn’t much to do. We smoked marijuana, rode motorcycles, and got into mischief; in actuality, it was fairly Beavis and Butthead.”
Early in his youth, Stradlin became interested in music; by the age of eight, his favorite bands were Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, and Pink Floyd. His paternal grandmother, in a swing jazz band, played the drum with her friends and was his main musical inspiration. Stradlin persuaded his parents to buy him a drum set after getting inspired.
With his pals, Stradlin formed a band in high school.
