Biography

Henry Thomas is an American actor and musician who is most known for his remarkable work in films like “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial” and television series like “The Haunting of Hill House.” Henry was raised in Texas and has always dreamed of becoming an actor. He began acting in the 1981 film “Raggedy Man” before starring in the critically acclaimed and commercially successful 1982 film “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.” Henry was nominated for a Golden Globe for his outstanding Elliott performance in the film.

He returned to Texas after acting in this film with the purpose of focusing more on his academics. He resumed acting as well, making appearances in films like “Cloak & Dagger” and “Valmont.” He appeared in films and television shows throughout the 1990s, 2000s, and 2010 in both lead and supporting parts. In 1995, he made a prominent cameo in the television film “Indictment: The McMartin Trial,” for which he was nominated for a second Golden Globe. In the late 2010s, he made significant cameos in the critically acclaimed and popular horror series “The Haunting of Hill House” and “The Haunting of Bly Manor.”

Early Life

Henry Thomas was born in San Antonio, Texas, on September 9, 1971. He is the son of Henry Jackson Thomas Sr. and Carolyn Davis. While his father works as a hydraulic machinist, his mother stays at home. He was the only child of his parents and had no siblings. He first became interested in performing when he was just 8 years old. He watched a PBS documentary on acting, which really encouraged him to pursue acting. When he was ten years old, he began going to film and television auditions. After finding popularity as an actor in the 1982 film “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial,” he moved back to San Antonio, Texas, where he was born. East Central High School in Texas is where he obtained his graduation. High school was not a particularly fun period for him.

Despite being a well-known person, he encountered some bullying at school. He intended to complete his degree before going to work full-time in the film business. Despite this, he persisted in applying for jobs, and during the 1980s, he made an appearance in a variety of little and important roles in films and on television. After completing high school, he applied to Blinn College to study history and philosophy. He accomplished this in some way. But while still a college student, he began to get many of film and television offers. After his first year of college, he made the decision to stop going and concentrate solely on acting.

Career

Henry made a significant acting breakthrough when he applied for the lead role in Steven Spielberg’s opulent science fiction film “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.” Last but not least, Steven’s friend Jack Fisk suggested that he audition for Henry. The movie, which made its premiere in 1982, quickly gained popularity and became one of the year’s highest-grossing movies. It gradually rose to the status of cult classic, marking a turning point in director Steven Spielberg’s already stellar career. The movie received four of its nine Academy Award nominations.

Since Henry was the hero of one of the high-profile films, he was able to land other leading roles in films like “Cloak & Dagger” and “Frog Dreaming.” Because of this, when he started acting again as an adult in the late 1980s after putting more of an emphasis on his studies, he was mostly given supporting parts in films like “Valmont.” In 1990, when he played a teenage Norman Bates, the villain, in one of the lead roles of the made-for-television film “Psycho IV: The Beginning,” he made his television debut. In the 1990s, he also had notable cameo appearances in television films such “A Taste for Killing,” “Indictment: The McMartin Trial,” and “Riders of the Purple Sage.”

In the 1990s, he had supporting roles in films including “Fire in the Sky” and “Legends of the Fall,” but in the romantic coming-of-age drama “Niagara, Niagara,” he played Seth, the main character. In Europe, the film was a critical and commercial success, but it had trouble in the American market. He also performed as Buck Hogan in the 1997 sci-fi thriller film “Bombshell.” He appeared in the 1998 television miniseries “Moby Dick,” playing the lead role. In Martin Scorsese‘s historical drama “Gangs of New York,” which was released in 2002, he portrayed Johnny Sirocco. Strong critical acclaim and financial success followed the release of the film.

Around this time, he also made numerous appearances, taking the lead roles in films like “Dead Birds” and “The Hard Easy.” At the end of the 2000s, he made his acting debut in the independent horror film “Red Velvet,” and he went on to play significant roles in films like “Dear John” and “Suffering Man’s Charity.” In the 2010s, he got more involved with television and had significant roles in programs like “Betrayal and Sons of Liberty.” Henry portrays Hank Williams in the principal role of the 2011 biographical drama film “The Last Ride.” The movie garnered a variety of reviews. In the 2010s, he had brief cameos in films including “Big Sur” and “Gerald’s Game.”

In 2018, he made an appearance as one of the series’ key characters in the critically acclaimed television show “The Haunting of Hill House.” Later, he made frequent appearances in the horror program “The Haunting of Bly Manor.” In more recent years, he has appeared in minor roles in films including “Doctor Sleep” and “To All the Boys: Always and Forever.” For his roles in “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial,” “Indictment: The McMartin Trial,” and, correspondingly, the British Academy Film Award and Golden Globe Awards, he got nominations.
